I have had much success in home based business and online marketing.  Due to this i feel its important to start writing about some of the problems most of you are running into out there in developing your home based business. 

First, you need to run this like a business.  I want you to have a game plan, and hopefully my posts will help you do just this.  You need to put together a budget of what you are willing to spend, and stick with it.  You need to find good resources for help, and use them.  Remember that last part.  YOU DO NEED HELP in this business and there are a lot of people here willing to do just that.

Second, we need prospects.  We need to generate leads to your business program and we need them to have a degree of quality and not at a detrimental expense.  This means you need to be in charge of how to develop YOUR OWN LEADS!  Thats right.  If you trust other people's marketing efforts to send you leads, then be prepared to be disappointed.  You may find a good source but you will always do a better job if YOU learn to generate your own prospects.  Advertising is important.  You can use many free forms like setting up your own blog, for example blogster.com, I also recommend Adwords and Yahoo PPC options.  I KNOW, you have heard it before.  UNLIKE what you may or may not have heard of before, i want you to TRACK your advertising.  You must set up tracking url's or other systems to track which advertising is working for you, and which campaign is generating results.  WHY?  So you know where to concentrate your time and your money.  This is for everything you do.  I don't care if you are passing out post cards about your home based business, i want all those post cards to have a tracking url on them, an email address that is specific to them, whatever it takes to know the origins of EVERY lead you get, if it came from those cards, that ad, your commercial, your business card!  EVERYTHING GETS TRACKED!  GOT IT?

Third, capturing information and making it a LEAD, and yes we will post more on advertising options soon.  However, i need to make sure you have another element set up to make your advertising even more efficient.  I want you to have a lead capture system in place.  If someone is coming into your site, before they look around freely, i want you to know who they are.  Set up a intro screen if nothing else, that asks that person to register for something free, a free trial, a free 24hr look period, a free DVD, whatever you think it will take for your particular product.  Remember you want that name and email address if nothing else.  That way, if they don't sign up, which many won't, you can contact them back and go over any concerns that they may have and a new attempt to get them to sign up!  Trust me this works!

Finally, if you work your home business right you will make money.  It will take time.  You must consistently tweak your sites, your ads, and yourself but in the end you will make money thats why we are here.  IF YOU DON'T stay in touch with your leads though, you will lose out on sales and sometimes to your competitors selling the same product or home based business as you.  Stay in touch by implementing auto responders on your site.  This way when the lead comes in they will start receiving information right away, information you can change depending on the situation.  THIS IS VERY SIMPLE AND VITAL!
