People who work from home are in a enviable position of having their cake and eating it too, according to people who want to work from home, but are stuck with a long, slow commute in a corporate environment they may not like. There is a lot to working from home, however, that only those who do it realize. I have had a home based business for a long time, and the major issue I deal with is interruptions from people all day long who think that I am available to talk on the phone, instant message, go out to lunch, or clean the house at the drop of a hat. While interruptions are a normal part of everyone's work day, whether they are at home or not, when they occur at home, it seems like they are more intrusive than when they happen at a work site.
And then there are the pets, which is an entirely different issue. When you work from home, you have your cat or dog with you, and you may lose time while you give them the attention that they need. I have a cat who thinks I am his doorman, and work from home just to pay for this house, buy his food, and open the door to his big outdoor territory at his every whim.
